Coming across like the freak mutant offspring of a bizarre liaison between the Cheshire Cat and the Hubble Space Telescope, Mick’s cryptic smile always gave the impression he knew something that we didn’t.

What it was he knew is hard to say; we never found out.
And Mick wasn’t telling.

Despite a sartorial incident when Mick arrived in CAPS one day wearing double-denim, you could usually rely on the insight that was said to derive from decades of wearing penny glasses and the wisdom that only came from wearing cord pants.

His black DM’s were as much a political statement of solidarity with the unemployed proletariat as they were a hard-wearing and comfortable item of footwear.

Mick gave the Community Arts Project Sunderland some integrity, he gave it a lot of dub reggae and, crucially, he allowed Mad Brian (RIP) to work there, but first and foremost, Mick was a professional photographer.

So Mick, if you’re out there somewhere, making documentary films with the disaffected youth of Taunton or wherever, send Booga some pictures for this site!
