Half Day Closing

I suppose a bit of context is a good idea before I get started. What you see here is an example of what you might see provided by one of the three TV channels you had to choose from on a weekday afternoon in the late seventies and early eighties. Nothing. Or perhaps a school programme if you were lucky (see links page). Or racing from Utoxeter. And the boozers closed at three. And Video recorders were a luxury item. And no one had a walkman, never mind a home computer or a mobile phone (they didn't exist). And nowt opened on a Sunday. And teachers could still punch you in the bogs at school if you worked you ticket. At least after you left school you had the prospect of a job in one of the local heavy industries to fill your day and earn some cash.

Oh Dear...

Nostalgia is unavoidable on a site like this, and nostalgia can be comforting. But despite the fact that I had a proper laugh both at the time and whilst putting this lot together, its worth keeping in mind the fact that the situation in Sunderland in the late seventies and early eighties was shite. And part of the reason the Bunker happened was BECAUSE it was so shite. And because a few people gave enough of a fuck to try and do something about it.
