I Breathe First

Taken by Ian 'Stosh' Storey outside the Kings Arms in Depford. Dave Irwin, Booga and Marty Yule. I think Marty was still working at the New Record Inn, next to the Old Twenty Nine boozer on High Street West.

The name I Breathe First came from a line of Shakespear I think. Fairly impressive since I have never read any in my life. I think it is a quote from a Julias Caeser, who says something along the lines of "I eat first, I drink first, I breathe first".

I am probably wrong though.

Dave Irwin was at the time working in a bakery in Grindon, (Carters...nice cornbeef pies, hardlies any potato) and my mam worked there as well. She had told him that I played bass after he had said he was looking to form a band. "He can play all the songs n that". He agreed for me to go down and meet him, and realised I could actually play. We recruited Marty. True to Punk rock form, we actually did practice in the drummers bedroom. Until we got wind of the Sunderland Musicians Collective thing. We played maybe half a dozen gigs, all in Sunderland. Marty went on to play with the Toy Dolls and Martin Stephenson and the Daintees.
